‘Hi Maiya, I own a double seated swing chair that sits in our back yard. I bought it 4 or 5 years ago on a whim, just because I could I guess and as a child I always wanted a swing chair. I have never sat in that chair, that is until today.

Today I went out and sat in that chair, I just sat there and listened. I listened to the magpies, I listened to the kookaburras and numerous other birds I couldn’t identify, I listened to the neighbours fighting next door (luckily not being able to understand them), I listened to the wind in the trees, the cars going past in the distance, the golfers talking and laughing over the back fence and I listened to the breath of my elderly dog as he slept at my feet.

Today I went out and sat in that chair, I just sat there and watched. I watched the wind move through the trees, I watched the bees move from flower to flower, I watched my dog’s chest rise and fall with each breath, the golfers drive by in their little golf carts and I watched the birds eating in the trees. As I watched the birds in the trees I noticed the occasional white feather float down from the branches, slowly falling with the breeze. And as I watched these delicate little feathers fall I noticed the tears gently rolling down my cheeks.

And that’s when I realised the profound affect of my session with you.

They weren’t tears of sorrow, they were tears of joy. Joy for a peace that I had felt before. A joy for a new beginning. A joy for a better life. I have you to thank for that joy, for that peace. Thank you Maiya. Thank you.’
