Bowen Therapy|Bowen Technique|Bowtech
~ all of these names are used to describe the same modality|technique

Developed in Australia by the late Tom Bowen from Geelong, Bowen Therapy / Technique is a soft tissue technique that enables the muscles of the body to relax at a very deep level. This restores the body’s innate ability to heal itself.

‘Bowen’ is used to relieve stress, acute and chronic pain, inflammation, conditions of congestion, headaches, respiratory difficulties, postural problems and many other health complaints. The results are long lasting and often only 2-3 treatments are required to be effective. The body’s ability for self-healing is an amazing thing. Treating clients with Bowen Technique is testament to this fact.

Conditions that have responded well to this method of treatment include:

  • head & neck tension
  • frozen shoulder & tennis elbow
  • knee & ankle problems
  • musculo-skeletal pain
  • bedwetting
  • menstrual & hormonal problems
  • acute & chronic pain

Bowen therapy works on the body to ease pain, re-align the structure and bring the body back into balance by using gentle techniques working on the soft tissue. Bowen stimulates the natural energy flow within the body bringing deep relaxation while working on all levels of the body for a complete healing experience. This is a gentle and rapidly effective treatment providing long lasting results.

Bowen Technique is appropriate for everyone from highly trained athlete to newborns, pregnant women, the elderly, the frail and the chronically ill. Bowen has been successful in treating musculoskeletal problems such as back and neck pain, scoliosis, sporting injuries, TMJ alignment and carpal tunnel syndrome. It is also renowned for its effectiveness with internal conditions such as migraines, digestive and elimination complaints, colic in babies and respiratory problems, including asthma.

A Bowen treatment consists of gentle rolling movements. These stimulations activate a systemic response so powerful that a few minutes pause is observed to allow them to be integrated. A pattern of movements and pauses continues throughout the treatment. The rhythm is soothing and most clients will fall asleep at least once during the session. Benefits are usually apparent within two sessions, even when long-standing conditions are being treated. It is recommended to commit to a series of three or four sessions to make sure the problem is completely resolved. Bowen results are profound and lasting, unless reinjury occurs.

I did my first Bowen course in 1998 with Bowtech|The Bowen Therapy Academy of Australia and was instantly hooked with how utterly amazing this technique is, it is so gentle yet so powerful. I have since completed each of the courses required to become a qualified Bowen therapist with Bowtech. I have also done 3 Masters courses. As part of our registration we are required to continue our education each year and keep our skills and technique updated.
